What does “Ceramic veneers” mean?
Ceramic veneers are thin restorations made from dental ceramic and bonded to teeth. Ceramic describes the material category; veneer describes the form and coverage of the restoration.
The role of ceramics
It is fabricated to reproduce the color, translucency, and surface shape of teeth and then bonded. Even within the same ceramic series, the composition, production method, and translucency are different, so it is necessary to select a material that suits the treatment purpose. Not all ceramic veneers are e.max, and material selection and suitability for no-prep treatment are evaluated separately.
The natural appearance is influenced not only by the material itself, but also by the color of the original tooth, the thickness of the restoration, the bonding material and the characteristics of the surrounding teeth. Choosing a bright color is one thing, but creating a shape that matches the surrounding teeth is another matter.
How is it different from resin?
Unlike treatment that creates a shape directly with composite resin, ceramic veneer treatment generally involves attaching a restoration made outside the mouth. Repair methods, costs, and visit procedures may also vary.
Ceramic is not an unbreakable material. In areas where restorations are thin or subject to strong forces, thickness, adhesion, and occlusion must be considered together.
Management up to the adhesive border
Keep natural teeth and gums around the restoration clean. If there is a crack or part of it is broken, determine the appropriate method among polishing, repair, or replacement depending on the extent of the damage and the state of adhesion.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are all ceramics the same material?
Even within ceramics, the composition, production method, translucency, etc. are different. You need to find out which product is being used and in what range so that you can connect the material names to the actual treatment plan.
Do ceramic veneers always last longer than resin veneers?
The material alone cannot determine how long a restoration will last for an individual. Remaining tooth tissue, bonding, bite, habits, and care must all be considered.
Can the tooth color be easily changed after fabrication?
After completion and bonding, the range of color and shape adjustments is limited. During the shade selection and try-in stage, we take sufficient time to check how it matches with the surrounding teeth.
