The duration depends on the extent of the decay. For Stage 1 cavities, simple treatments like resin fillings can be completed immediately on the same day. However, Stage 2 or higher requires more specialized precision treatment, which typically takes about a week to complete.
For Stage 1 cavities, you can eat immediately. For Stage 2 or higher, it is safer to avoid chewing on the treated area while the temporary filling is in place. Once the final prosthesis is permanently attached, you may resume your normal eating habits right away.
Even after successful treatment, secondary cavities can still develop around the edges of your dental restorations if oral hygiene is neglected. Therefore, maintaining consistent and thorough oral care is vital.
A Stage 1 cavity is the initial phase where decay appears as a tiny black dot on the enamel, the outermost layer of the tooth. As it causes no pain, it is most often discovered during routine dental examinations.
A Stage 2 cavity is usually the point where patients begin to notice symptoms. At this stage, the decay can progress rapidly if left untreated. Therefore, we highly recommend seeking treatment promptly.
At Stage 3, the decay has progressed deep into the dentin and reached the nerve tissue, often causing significant pain. Since it is beyond the stage where simply removing and filling the cavity is sufficient, root canal treatment is necessary if pulpitis has developed.
